Stuff That I Like: My iPod (Mini).
I really enjoy listening to audiobooks on my (by now hopelessly outdated 1-yr-old) iPod Mini. My favorite audiobooks are any Jane Austen adaptation and the two Bridget Jones's Diaries (read by Barbara Rosenblat -- she's got a great voice). I've listened to them so many times that I practically have them memorized.
At the moment I'm listening to Nick Horby's A Long Way Down, which has been interesting so far. I like how the different characters are voiced by different people.
I've also enjoyed listening to Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation, which features the voices of some famous people as some of the historical characters. Steven King plays Abraham Lincoln, for example, and Jon Stewart plays President Garfield. It's nice when they add a little something extra to the audiobook that you don't get with the written piece. Sarah Vowell's voice is a bit cartoonish (she plays the teen-age daughter in The Incredibles, by the way) but it is endearing. Her serious intelligence is a thought-provoking contrast to her little-girl-sounding voice.
I like to listen to audiobooks when I'm sleepy at night before I go to sleep, when I'm too sleepy to actually sit with an open book and a light on. Also great for car trips and walks. It's so much more convenient that the olden days when you would have to put a tape or cd into a player!
Of course, I also like to listen to music, too, although I find myself listening more and more to audiobooks and podcasts. I'll try to list some of my favorite Podcasts another time.
